A good method to have an completed list is to make a daily and weekly set of goals. With this, you will always be in a situation where you are in control of what's going on towards your life. Each day you'll have a chance to fulfill a certain goal - leaving you with a sense of accomplishment.
Here are some pointers that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them. I've marked resources for some of these areas for you to study further.
Prayers and reading the Bible play a very large part in setting and achieving your goals. Try to find out if there is anything in your plans/goals which does not fit God's purpose. If there is one, then your plans will be in disarray! If you are not certain about your goals, stop and pray to God for direction and purpose.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord
And in His law he meditates day & night.
Psalm 1:1-2
Having an educated mind is a major factor in achieving your goals. If your goals require you to have a certain knowledge about something, start that education today. Set a time today and every day to study and learn about. Why do we need to do that? So you can help your children as you learn and talk about new ideas.
A lot of us have the desire to quit their day job and work in the comfort of our own homes. That goal is very good! If doing work at home allows you to have more free time for you and your family, write it down so that you won't forget and work towards that goal. Another goal may be for your children to have an option of working for themselves or have somebody give them their salary. When you feel that God is pointing you in that direction, write it down!
Your family should never be left out of your plans. At the end of this week, write down the goals you have drafted. Share these with your spouse and discuss the pros/cons of each goal. Be sure both parents are in agreement with the goals you have set. If not, go to God and pray for His wisdom. God may want you to submit to your husband's direction which you should do cheerfully. Continue to pray about the difference, but be sure you are always submitting to your hubby. God will reward you for this. I know from experience :-)
Another major part that helps you in attaining your goals are personal financial situations. Formulate a reachable goal on how much you really want or need to make. Take a note of the debts you've incurred and develop goals to help clear that out. You should also come up with plans by which you will be able to achieve your earning potential. Be imaginative and also be Biblical in this sense. You will be amazed how God will help you through any financial burden.
Health & fitness should be included in your goals. We live in a society that spends most of its time in front of a screen (TV screen, computer screen, movie screen). We must "make the time" to keep our bodies physically fit. Jot down goals to exercise, eat healthy and enjoy your family through games and play.
Physically gifted children may be able to achieve sports related goals, like playing for the local homeschool basketball team or high school football team. Determining your children's physical capabilities should be one of your priorities. Sports are a great way for your children to learn character lessons and grow in Christ. But, you must be careful to guard your family time so that sports doesn't become the highest priority in your family. In other words, don't forsake family time and family devotions for too many basketball and softball games.
There is a saying - "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" that is really true. Give your self some time to enjoy life by making plans now. Plan this year to go out on a vacation with your hubby. Start planning now and get the grandparents to check the children.
The above discussion sums up the categories you can use to prepare your goals: Spiritual, Education, Family, Financial, Health-Fitness, Career/Job and Leisure.
Although it is nice to have long term goals (some 20 or above years), it's better to start with the shorter ones. I would usually think of 5 year goals and 1 year goals. You'll then break them up to 6 month intervals and then to the monthly ones, weekly and lastly daily plans.
In the 3rd part, I will discuss about how to make everyday lists that are sure to work.
