Caffeine - Useful Or Useless

By: Jeff Foster..

Caffeine is a weakness enjoyed by a vast number of people. In fact, it is a weakness that is enjoyed way too much every day. Most people are probably unaware that they ingest weighing more caffeine than they need to. In addition many people couple their morning cups of coffee with soda or colas in the afternoon. Colas can be even worse than that cup of coffee because many times they are loaded with sugar as well as containing the caffeine.

No, a cup of coffee in the morning to get you going isn't going to hurt you. In fact it can give your body the little jump start it needs to get you going. A little caffeine boost in the morning can get your day off to something worthwhile instead of feeling sleepy and tired. But, if you drink too much caffeine it can certainly have the opposite effect that you desire. Too much caffeine can actually drain your energy as you rebound from the boost ends begin to feel tired again.

Caffeine is addictive. You may not have thought of it that way, but it is. You can get hooked on caffeine. For those of you who enjoy too much coffee or too much soda; you know what I'm talking about if you've ever developed headaches or had the shakes be cause your body is craving caffeine. These are the symptoms of the addictive qualities of caffeine. Your body is telling you that it is craving and needing its next caffeine fix.

That morning cup of Joe is indeed a great pick me up. The key to consuming drinks with caffeine is to consume them in moderation and use them correctly. Just like anything you don't want to overdo it. If you do, caffeine can have unpleasant side effects. And certainly you should understand that you cannot substitute caffeine for sleep; particularly if you are behind the wheel.

The key thing is to understand the use of caffeine and how to use it right. If you are a bit tired in the evening, a cup of coffee is a great way to give you a little pep. If you are going to be using something dangerous like a chain saw, you should wait until you are fully alert to operate it. Don't think coffee will make you alert enough to be able to run it safely. So, you are tired at work. You need a little pick me up, but don't want to use caffeine. Well, there are some things that you can do to help you out.

When it comes to maintaining your energy level, avoid foods that are high in sugar. When you're feeling a bit sluggish, don't opt for the candy. Drink something other than sodas when you take your lunch break. Keep in mind that foods that are high in sugar may give you an initial boost of energy, but will rebound you back even further into a state of feeling tired. During the day if you feel you must snack then snack on some fruit if you are beginning to feel sluggish. Keeping an apple handy or some other fruit that you can easily eat is a much better alternative to a soda or candy bar.

Instead of sodas try drinking choose. This is a much better way to re-energize your energy level. Juices may be a bit more expensive than the sodas but they are well worth the money when it comes to your energy and health. Be creative when it comes to your juice drinks. Try mixing some of your favorite juices together in order to get a different taste and avoid becoming bored with the flavors.

Opting for juice instead of caffeine and sugars will keep your energy at a much more constant state throughout the day. If you were to achieve this instead of drinking colas and sodas, you'll find that you won't suffer that feeling of being burnt out as much.

When it comes to any pick me up such as caffeine, it is by all means to have it from time to time. If you're feeling a little sluggish then a bit of caffeine can be just what you need to get you jump start it. Do not replace sleep with caffeine. Do not fool yourself into the fallacy that with a bit more caffeine you can function just fine - just as you would if you were fully rested. Just like anything else, common sense and moderation is the key.
