Diabetes develops when the body is not able to produce insulin the right way. Hence, there may be too little insulin in the body to regulate the blood sugar level or if the insulin is in the body, it might not have been used effectively thereby leading to diabetes. These two cases fall under two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes may occur when there is no or too little insulin in the body that is the first case and type 2 diabetes may occur when the insulin of the body is not used effectively as in second case. Diabetes is taking the shape of grave disease with change in time. Near about to seven percentage of population in United States currently suffers from the disease. Most of these cases lie under type 2 diabetes.
The foremost treatment given to diabetics includes a healthy and nutritious diet, followed by exercising. The blood glucose level in the body is regulated by a well-balanced diet and exercising. Exercising helps to maintain and lower the body weight, thereby helping to control the disease. Going further, the other factors like insulin shots and other medications come into play.
Now-a-days, diabetes patients are also treated with weight loss surgeries. It is believed that weight loss surgery is another tool to reduce the chances of diabetes. Weight-loss surgery is helpful in reducing type 2 diabetes specially which is much more prevalent than its similitude's. Patients who undergo weight loss surgery are 5 times more likely to repel diabetes within next two years as compared to others who undergo the normal medication. This method includes weight-loss surgeries and a medical weight-management program. Weight loss surgeries are of two types: gastric-bypass and the lap-band. Earlier, some of the surgeons believed that the new lap-band method will not prove to be as effective as gastric-bypass surgery for treating diabetes. The surgeons thought that the lap-band surgery would not bring the same changes as gastric-bypass surgery because there were some hormonal changes that went on while the stomach was being stapled in the lap-bad surgery.
But fortunately, the surgeons proved wrong and the lap-band surgery also brought about the same changes as gastric-bypass surgery without any complications and side-effects. Both the methods of weight loss surgery follow different ways to operate. Under lap-band method, a silicone band is tied around the upper area of the stomach thereby bounding eating. While under Gastric-bypass surgery, the stomach is divided into two smaller and larger portions, the upper pouch and the lower pouch thereby rearranging the small intestine.
Gastric-bypass treatment is preferred over lap-band surgery for Type 2 diabetes patients. Sources also reveal that gastric-bypass surgery treatment is given to almost 84 percent of Type 2 diabetics in United States. The death rate of people which are given gastric-bypass surgery is much less which is only 1 in 200 than the patients being treated by lap-band surgery which is 1 in 2000. The gall bladder is eliminated from the body in gastric-bypass surgery, hence it has been proved that lap-band surgery is more safer and has less side-effects than the gastric-bypass surgery.
Many-a-times, Diabetes patients may opt for insulin or other medications. Dieting and exercising may also not bring in a good change. But, after going through lap-band surgery, there will not be any need for insulin or other medications, easy exercise, healthy diet. Lap-band surgery helps patients who suffer from obesity, have a body mass index of 40 or more, have a metabolic syndrome of Type II diabetes, hypertension and hyperlypodemia, high fat or cholesterol in their blood to reduce 10-20% of their body weight. It is believed that patients who loose their weight were more close to regulating diabetes. These methods are helpful to almost 76% of type 2 diabetes patients.
Scientists are finding the reason for obesity being the major cause of diabetes, and the reason for weight loss being the major treatment in controlling diabetes. Insulin's reaction in the body is stimulated by excess fat and cholesterol in the body. Tests are also being done to identify the the role of fatty acids in the blood and the hormones produced by fat in the body that regulate Insulin.
