Liposuction - for quick removal of fat

By: Jessica Thomson

Liposuction is a type of Cosmetic Surgery which helps in the removal of excess fat from various parts of the body. The areas can be abdomen, buttocks, thighs, neck and even back of the arms. It was invented in Italy in the year 1974 by two great surgeons, Dr. Giorgio and Dr. Arpad Fischer, both Americans. It was first tried in 1920 by a French surgeon on a French model which had lead to several complications.
Procedure
Though it is a much quicker procedure of fat removal, the amount of fat that can be removed in a single sitting is limited. The procedure makes use of small stainless steel tubes known as Cannula. This Cannula is attached with a strong suction pump which is inserted into the body through small cuts that are made in the body. The cannula makes tunnels through these cuts into the fatty layers. After the surgery is complete, these tunnels fall in and this gives rise to a better body shape.
Different Techniques
There are various ways of doing it. One can get it done painlessly with the help of local or general anesthesia. There are various techniques like the Tumescent technique, Dry technique, Wet technique, Super wet technique, Ultrasonic technique, Power Assisted techniques and Laser Assisted lipolysis. All these procedures are equally good. But the success of this surgery is not determined by the amount of fat that is removed or the speed with which is done. It is determined by the amount of satisfaction a patient gets from the surgery.
Risks associated with the Surgery
But whoever is thinking of going for this surgery, one must be well aware of the risks involved with the procedure. It is important for minimizing the risks.
4Removal of too much fat in one sitting means that excessive number of areas in the body has undergone surgery. In medical terms this means excessive surgical trauma which is dangerous. It is important for avoiding liposuction complications.
5Surgical procedures with liposurgery on the same day must be avoided. Exposure to anesthesia for a long period of time is very dangerous and therefore must be avoided. It may cause complications.
6Skin irregularities and depression may result if the surgeon is not attentive towards the details. That may happen when the surgeon is overworked. The instrument used for the process. The size of this instrument also matters a lot as it can affect the softness of the skin after the surgery is over. Cannulas which are larges in size can lead to irregularities. The large ones are mostly used by the surgeons for total body fat suctioning.
7Many of these procedures leave some anesthesia tinged blood under the skin. This fluid is absorbed by the blood stream itself in over a period of time or they can be removed through drainage and then absorbed by special absorbents. This accelerates the healing process.
One can take the help of this procedure if one wants to less excess of fat in less time, otherwise the natural methods like exercise and balanced diet work best for weight loss.
