Obesity And The Weighty Condition Of Your Back End Assets

By: Tammy Foster..

With today's ever expanding waist lines, the obesity epidemic is growing at an alarmingly rapid pace. The ever modern western world seems to have one of the biggest problems.

Medically speaking obesity is defined as having a body mass index of 30 or higher. Body mass index is simply a measurement of the person's weight proportional to their height. The body mass index works as a simple benchmark to indicate an amount of fat stored on the body. Needless to say the higher the number the greater the risk to the various health problems brought on by being overweight.

It really is not surprising at all to think that the fat epidemic is simply out of hand. In fact, researchers warn, it is reaching epidemic levels of concern.

The health concerns related to obesity are obvious and completely evident. It puts an incredible amount of strain and pressure on the joints. Over time obesity will actually cause so much pressure on the joints that they can actually break down leaving you with arthritis and lots of pain.

As the weight goes up and the body struggles to accommodate the extra pounds, people will generally become less and less active only contributing to the weight gain cycle.

Besides the daily strain that your obesity exerts on your body's joints, the general lack of activity and poor eating habits, will place added pressure and strain on your heart and on your blood vessels. This puts you at a higher risk for a stroke since the extra strain on your blood vessels puts you at risk for developing high blood pressure. Your obesity can also put you at risk for developing sleep apnea so that you actually stop breathing during sleep. Ok, now just that one fact alone should be enough to get you up off the couch and exercising! Do you want to stop breathing while you are sleeping! Is that chocolate cupcake really worth that risk!

Once the body reaches a state of obesity, the ability to reverse the trend is difficult. By this time, it's usually not just a battle against the weight problem, but a battle for one's self esteem and confidence that they can win the battle. Obesity can be overcome, but it takes patience and a long term approach. Not just a new 'latest' diet.

If you found your way to an obese state, the first place to start your journey back to a recognizable weight is with your physician. Take the time to to discuss your weight and your plan to begin to reclaim your body. Be sensible and be realistic and work with your doctor as it pertains to both your dietary eating habits and any type of newly found physical activity.

Obesity did not happen overnight and neither will your weight loss. But you can regain your health and gain control over your weight issues if you make up your mind that you are going to do it. The obesity epidemic is definitely here, but for goodness sakes you do not have to contribute to it so heavily!
