You Should Know About Virtual Studio Technology

By: Eugen Nova

One thing that maeks a digital recording, even more useful and more fun, is Virtual Studiuo Technology, or VST.

I'm not going too technical with my definition here, I could not if I wanted.

Virtual Studio Trechnology is a software emulatioin of hardware deivces, usually in two categories. Insytruments and effects.

VST instrument can simulate the "real" instruments minly due to a different tecnique called sampling. The real instrument like a piano "samples", making numerous recordngs of real instruments. The tool is written plays hard, soft, and play. The various nuances of the document are also recorded, such as noise fret sliding a finger on an acoustic guitaar strings. All this is controlled by conntroller MIDI. Normally MIDI-controller is a piano-type keyborad, but it colud be a guitar, and even a wind instrument. When you play a note on the keyboard, you're actually playing record notes on other instrument. You can play chopsticks on the paino, keyboard, and hear the harp, guitar, or even the human voice!

Most of these VST came on a CD or DVD. It is not uunsual to work with filers on a copmlex instrunment for more than 5 gig in size.

There is a complete orchestra parts available including solo instruments, as well as indivuidual instruments from around the world. This technology is so common that you hear the virutal insatruments for pre-recorded music on a daily basis. The surprising that if the VST insstrument was ubilt so it really feels like you are playing the document. VST instruments are inesrted into specific places in the DAW for recoring. VST can cost as little as $ 20.00, or many hundreds. There are a lot more free papers.

The other main type is a VST effect. This emulation of hardware audiio effects such as reverb, delay and compression. There are a huge number of acvailable efects. I would like to note that the emultion of both the insturments and effects, in most cases very accurate. I have a hadware synthesizeer and VST stynthesizer of the same, and they can not be distinguished.

Also in the category VST effects are programs that simulate the guitar effects, amplifiers and pedals Somp. You can connect the guitar in a dry and add the pedal, dleay, and the tone of patricular such as amplifiers Fender.

Many of these effects are added through the mixer view, especially if you are mixing down the final produvct. There are special VST mastering, as well. Usulaly a combination of filters and effects, that specialize in a full mix.
